Joseph Muscat Confirmed MPL Chairman as League Posts Record Surplus

The Malta Premier League has confirmed Joseph Muscat as Chairman for a second term after he received a unanimous 12–0 secret vote of confidence during the MPL Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday afternoon. His renewed mandate comes as the organisation announced a record surplus of €475,000 for the 2025/26 season more than double last year’s figure.
In just two years, the MPL’s revenue has surged from €60,000 to nearly €1 million, marking one of the most rapid financial growth periods in Maltese football administration. Delegates also elected Victor Cassar of Ħamrun Spartans and Johann Said of Floriana to the MFA Executive Board, filling the seats vacated by Keith Perry and Michael Valenzia.
The MPL expressed its gratitude to its commercial partners for their continued trust, highlighting their role in the league’s expanding financial stability.
The AGM also approved the 2026/27 season calendar, with the league kicking off on Friday, 14 August. The draws and sequence for the first eleven Match Weeks of the Opening Round – League Phase will take place on Monday, 20 July.
