Maltese Residents Are Travelling More But Spending Less Per Trip!

People living in Malta are travelling abroad more often, but spending less money on each trip!
New figures from the National Statistics Office (NSO) show that residents of Malta made 704,426 trips abroad between January and September 2026.
That's an increase of 6.6% compared to the same period last year!
Despite travelling more, the average amount spent on each trip actually dropped.
On average, residents spent €982 per trip, which is 4.8% less than in 2025.
However, with more trips being made overall, total spending on overseas travel still increased.
In fact, residents spent an estimated €691.4 million travelling abroad during the first nine months of 2026, an increase of 1.4% compared to the previous year.
During the summer months alone, the average traveller spent around €1,065 per trip and stayed abroad for approximately seven and a half nights.
