Italy Is Still Malta's Favourite Destination For Travelling Abroad!

When it comes to travelling abroad, Italy remains the number one destination for residents of Malta!

According to new figures published by the National Statistics Office (NSO), 38.9% of all trips abroad between July and September 2026 were to Italy.

That's approximately 110,700 trips to our neighbouring country in just three months!

Italy continues to be a popular choice for people living in Malta, whether it's for a short weekend break, a summer holiday or a visit to family and friends.

The figures also show that residents of Malta made a total of 284,486 trips abroad during the summer months, an increase of 5.1% compared to the same period in 2025.

Travel to countries within the European Union increased by 3.1%, while trips to countries outside the EU rose by 11.5%.

In total, residents spent an estimated €303 million travelling abroad between July and September alone.
