Zabbar residents face rat infestation due to trash-ridden field
Nov 18 2021 Share

The Environmental Health Directorate are currently holding investigations to establish the owner of a trash-ridden field in Zabbar.

Health Minister Chris Fearne revealed this in a parliamentary reply to PN MP Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici regarding the steps to be taken to protect the residents of a locality. A number of Zabbar residents raised concerns regarding the amount of rats entering there homes in Triq il-Pellegrinaġġ tar-Roti due to the nearby field.

Minister Fearne communicated with the Environmental Health Directorate regarding the two complaints made on the concerned road, dating back to May 2020. The first complaint regarded the accumulation of garbage thrown in the private field along with the rat infestation. Fearne reiterated that last year, the Pest Control Unit within the directorate treated the area, going on to highlight that investigations are underway to discover the owner of the field.

Tunnel projects still running late as traffic congestions worsen

Tunnel projects still running late as traffic congestions worsen
Nov 17 2021 Share

Despite governmental sources stating that the ongoing tunnel projects are nearing completion, the traffic congestions forming on the roads suggests otherwise.

Just 3 days ago, the Malta Independent was informed by an Infrastructure Malta spokesperson that the tunnel works are still ongoing months beyond their initial target dates of completion.

The projects seek to upgrade four of Malta’s main tunnels in Kirkop, Santa Venera, Tal-Qroqq and Ta’Giorni. They kicked off back in August of 2020 and IM predicted the completion date as being June 2021.

Flash forward five months from the set date and the tunnels are not yet complete. The major works, including repairs to tubes and underground networks seem to be finished off. However, the full completion still needs more weeks.

The forming of traffic has prompted many to take to social media and express their concerns as they spend hours after a long day of work stuck in their vehicles.
