6 BBQ essentials you need for summer in Malta

6 BBQ essentials you need for summer in Malta
Jun 15 2022 Share

Since summer is just ’round the corner, the thought of beach days and barbecues seems as close as ever. That being said, whether its a small gathering between friends or a huge family cook-out you’re planning, no barbecue comes without its preparations.

Maltese barbecues call for some very particular essentials, which is why we’ve taken the liberty of listing 6 BBQ essentials you NEED to have this summer.

Grilling equipment

The heart and soul of each and every BBQ; while barbecues vary in shapes, sizes and functionalities, each and every grill-master requires their coveted set of tools. If you happen to be the one behind the grill, you are well aware of how important having a decent set of tools is.

A good set of barbecue tools is an investment for the long-run and will definitely last for a couple of years. Get yourself a good spatula, nice pair of tongs & an ‘I’m the Chef’ apron and you’re set for the summer.

Summer fruit

No Maltese barbecue comes without its bold bouquet of fruit. The centrepiece to an otherwise colourless event; you’ll always find a gorgeous selection of seasonal delights at the end of each barbecue sesh.

A typical Maltese summer fruit platter consists of fresh melon & watermelon slices, strawberries, grapes, kiwi and whatever your heart desires during the hot summer months.

Sustainable cutlery

It’s easy to pick up a set of disposable plates, cups and utensils and get the job quickly, but we’re all about sustainability and can’t stress enough how important it is to go into these type of events with a sustainable mindset.

Put away the plastic and replace the flimsy, hazardous cutlery with sustainable cutlery which looks good, feels good and helps you do your bit to save the planet!

Water biscuits (galletti) & dip

Let’s face it: You can’t have a Maltese barbecue without the standard, pre-grill galletti and dip. The traditional Maltese water biscuits are an iconic snack which bring people together from the very moment the packet is opened.

Accompany them with a selection of fresh dips and crunch the afternoon away as you patiently wait the grill-master to cook your food in the gorgeous Maltese summer weather.

Portable speaker

No social event is complete without entertainment and, with the right company, all you need is a portable speaker and a playlist chock-full of summer jams to make your barbecue complete.

Whether you enjoy guilty pleasures like Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline or subscribe to one of our very own playlists on Spotify, a good portable speaker is your ultimate barbecue buddy this summer.

Heineken® Silver

Whatever you do, don’t forget the Heineken® Silver. The new brand is taking over the globe one country at a time and it looks like it’s going to be a go-to for many BBQ-goers this summer.

The brand new beverage is brewed at an ice cold temperature of -1°C to ensure an extra refreshing taste and subtle finish, at 4% ABV. Less-bitter, easy to drink and super refreshing, Heineken® Silver will definitely appeal to beer drinkers and non-drinkers alike and be it a casual consumer, beer aficionado or social drinker, you need to have a couple of Heineken® Silvers with the squad this summer.

Send this to your BBQ squad!

Majestic sites in Maltese waters as dolphins make an appearance close to Marsaskala bay.

A lucky group were treated to playful dolphins leaping out of the water as they were fishing out at sea. The dolphins gave quite a spectacle, sometimes even leaping in unison.

Last summer, local social media uploaded several videos of such wonderful sea creatures. Many pointed to the lessening of sea crowding given the pandemic giving leeway for dolphins, and even whales, to swim around close to the island.
