In honour of International Day of Disabled Persons, which is celebrated on the 3rd of December, 13-year-old Beppe Caruana released his fifth book, Għeluq Snin Toninu, highlighting the potential of disabled individuals.
Caruana is now a seasoned author, with his last release coming in April 2023 in honour of International Autism Acceptance Day.
Collaborating with autistic illustrator Luke Briffa, the story is both thought-provoking and brought to life by Luke’s calming illustrations.
Beppe, who is autistic and has limited speech, wrote the book in Maltese to show that disabled people also enjoy celebrations with their close friends.
Inspired by the experiences of other disabled children, including those with autism, Beppe’s story addresses themes of exclusion at parties.
Set in Gozo, the book explores the emotions and desires of disabled children, focusing on their wish for acceptance. Published by Horizons with support from the National Literacy Agency, it will be available in public libraries.
