World’s Tallest & Shortest Women Meet Up

The world’s tallest and shortest women met for tea at The Savoy in London to celebrate the 20th annual Guinness World Records (GWR) Day.

Rumeysa Gelgi, a 27-year-old Turkish web developer who stands at 7ft 1in (215.16cm), and Jyoti Amge, a 30-year-old Indian actress measuring 2ft 1in (62.8cm), shared stories and bonded over their unique experiences.

“It was amazing meeting Jyoti,” said Gelgi. “Despite our height difference, we connected over shared interests like make-up and self-care.” Amge, best known for her role in American Horror Story, said, “I’m used to looking up at people, but it was special to meet Rumeysa, who is so kind-hearted.”

Gelgi has Weaver syndrome, a rare condition causing accelerated growth, while Amge has achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism. Both women refuse to let physical challenges define them and have been honored in the 70th anniversary edition of the GWR book as icons.

The edition also features other record holders like the world’s tallest man, Sultan Kosen, and Diana Armstrong, who has the longest fingernails. GWR editor Craig Glenday emphasised, “Guinness World Records celebrates diversity, and these two women embody the spirit of what we stand for.”

Frequency of Busses To Increase Beginning In December

During a parliamentary discussion on the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, and Public Works’ financial matters, Minister Chris Bonnet announced that, starting in December, bus frequencies on major routes connecting northern and southern Malta will increase.

From December 1st, the frequency of buses on high-demand routes, particularly those linking southern areas like Fgura and Qajjenza to northern towns such as Mosta, Burmarrad, and San Pawl il-Baħar, will be enhanced.

Malta is currently the second EU country to offer free public transport, which has seen a significant rise in users, particularly among local residents.

Minister Bonnet also revealed that ferry usage has risen in the first 10 months of 2024. Plans are underway to extend the current ferry service, which operates between Sliema, Valletta, and Birgu, to Marsaskala.

Maltese Mr World Contestant Wears Traditional ‘Mantle’

Maltese Mr World representative Slaven Micallef paid tribute to Malta’s history and culture by wearing a traditional Maltese ‘mantle’ during the competition.

Expressing his pride on Instagram, Slaven shared, “Honored to represent the rich history and culture of our beautiful island on the world stage!”

The ‘mantle,’ a symbol of Malta’s rich heritage, showcased the island’s cultural identity in this prestigious international event.

This year’s Mr World competition is being held in Vung Tau, Vietnam, running from November 5th to 23rd. Slaven’s participation highlights Malta’s unique traditions and its place on the global stage.

‘God’s Influencer’ Carlo Acutis Set To Become 1st Millennial Saint

Carlo Acutis, a London-born teenager known as “God’s influencer,” will be canonised as a saint in April. Acutis, who passed away from leukaemia in 2006 at just 15, will become the first millennial declared a saint by the Catholic Church.

Dubbed the “patron saint of the internet,” Acutis was recognised for his devotion to digital evangelism. He created a website cataloging Eucharistic miracles, a project launched mere days before his death.

This initiative, now translated into multiple languages, continues to inspire Catholics worldwide and highlights his enduring legacy.

Though born in the UK, Acutis spent most of his life in Italy, passing away in Monza. His body was later moved to Assisi, where it is displayed alongside other relics.

He was beatified in 2020 following his first recognised miracle: the healing of a Brazilian child born with a rare congenital condition.

In May, Pope Francis confirmed a second miracle attributed to Acutis—the sudden recovery of a Florence university student from severe brain trauma.

This confirmation paves the way for sainthood, requiring proof of two miracles beyond natural explanation. The canonisation is set for the weekend of April 26, as announced by Pope Francis at the Vatican.
