Wizz Air Registers First Airbus A321Xlr Under Maltese Flag

Wizz Air has added its first Airbus A321XLR to Malta’s aircraft registry, marking a milestone for both the airline and the country’s aviation sector.
The aircraft, registered as 9H-WAM, is the first A321XLR to be registered in mainland Europe and the first Wizz Air jet to operate under the Maltese flag.
Certified by Transport Malta’s Civil Aviation Directorate, the aircraft boosts Malta’s profile as an international aviation hub. Wizz Air said the new aircraft supports its ongoing fleet renewal and strengthens its partnership with Airbus. The A321XLR offers greater range, improved efficiency, and a 30% reduction in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions per seat.
Wizz Air Malta Managing Director Mauro Peneda called the addition a proud moment, while Transport Malta’s Charles Pace described it as a “milestone” for the airline and Malta’s registry.
The aircraft is part of a wider fleet expansion, with six more A321XLRs expected in 2025 and 300 aircraft on order across the group.
