Wildlife Rescue Team Saves Turtle Injured By Fishing Line

Earlier today, Marius Agius was fishing near Tigné when he noticed a turtle struggling in the water. On closer inspection, he realised the turtle had ingested fishing line, which was protruding from her mouth.
Acting quickly, Marius brought the turtle ashore and handed her over to the Wildlife Rescue Team Malta.
The turtle, named Lilly, is suffering from ingested fishing line and pronounced algal overgrowth on her carapace, indicating she has been unable to dive properly for some time.
She will undergo a full assessment by a veterinarian, including an x-ray to check for swallowed hooks. Her treatment plan will be determined following the examination.
All rescued animals are protected species, and it is illegal to keep them as pets in Malta. The Wildlife Rescue Team’s volunteers are trained and licensed to handle wildlife safely, with all the necessary equipment for rescues.
Members of the public who spot injured or endangered wild animals are urged to contact the Wildlife Rescue Team on 99999505.
