The Malta Records awarded a new record, which saw the largest amount of paper (quantified in weight) thrown by hand by the least amount of people off a private residence in the least amount of time.

A total of 81 sacks, weighing 255 kilos, were thrown by hand by 10 persons in 2 minutes and 53 seconds.

This took place in Triq John Borg, Birkirkara, in the residence of Kurt Farrugia and Chantelle Farrugia Sacco along with their daughter Ylenia.

Drone footage shows the ground absolutely covered in white like snowfall, with festa attendees celebrating as the record was set.

Traffic Accident at 5am in Marsa leaves 26 year old man injured

Earlier this morning, at around 5:00 AM, a traffic incident occurred on Tiġrija Street in Marsa. Police were promptly alerted to the situation and arrived at the scene to begin their investigation. Initial reports revealed that a 26-year-old man from Raħal Ġdid sustained injuries after being struck by a Ford Kuga driven by a 33-year-old resident of St. Paul’s Bay.

Upon arrival, a medical team provided immediate assistance to the injured man before he was transported to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance. The hospital later confirmed that the man had suffered serious injuries as a result of the accident.

Authorities have not yet released further details about the circumstances leading up to the collision, and investigations into the incident are ongoing. The police continue to gather evidence to determine the cause of the accident and whether any further action will be taken.

In the first half of 2024, non-fatal work accidents increased slightly by 23 cases, or 0.1%, compared to the same period in 2023. There were also four fatal work accidents reported.

A total of 1,085 non-fatal accidents were recorded, with the manufacturing sector experiencing the highest number at 15.8%. The construction sector followed with 143 cases (13.2%), and the human health and social work sector had 117 cases (10.8%).

Most workers involved in these accidents were absent for three days or less, while 19.3% were absent for 21 days or more.

Accidents predominantly affected individuals in elementary occupations and craft trades. The age group most affected was 25 to 34 years old. Of those involved, 70% were Maltese.

Back injuries were the most common, affecting 31.9% of cases, with wounds and superficial injuries, as well as dislocations, sprains, and strains, being the most frequent types of injuries. Enterprises with 500 or more employees reported 26.3% of the accidents.

In terms of fatalities, all four cases involved males, non-EU nationals, and those in elementary occupations. Half of the fatalities were due to head injuries, and half occurred in the construction sector.

The 2023 incidence rate for fatal accidents was 1.7 per 100,000 employed persons.
