Watch: French game ends in chaos after massive fight erupts

Aug 23 2021 Share

Yesterday night, French teams Marseille and OGC Nice were engaged in a football match when, with 20 minutes left to go, the OGC Nice fans threw a bottle at Marseille’s star player Dimitri Payet. This incident was the catalyst for a massive fight between players, coaches and supporters, leading to the game’s premature end.

After having a bottle thrown at him, Dimitri Payet immediately reacted and threw back the same bottle towards the fans. This caused a fight between the players of the opposing teams. The fight also prompted the OGC Nice fans to get on the pitch and defend their players. Staff and security personnel of both teams also got involved in what was one of the craziest football brawls ever seen.

The fight continued on for quite a long time. In the fight, fans witnessed Marseille players fight against OGC Nice ultras,  a Marseille coach punch a fan’s throat and Marseille manager Jorge Sampaoli completely lose it against French player Jean-Claire Tobido.

The Marseille squad then evacuated the pitch and made it to the dressing rooms, where manager Jorge Sampaoli rightfully argued with the match officials, asking them how this happened. Photos of Marseille players Matteo Guendouzi and Luan Peres’s injury marks were taken in the dressing room. Dimitri Payet also reportedly drew blood from the bottle thrown at him.

The players and coaches decided to abandon the match and not reenter the pitch, whilst the referees and OGC Nice squad were getting ready to finish the last 20 minutes. OGC Nice were awarded a 3-0 victory, but Marseille president Pablo Longoria stated in a video to the fans that they will be protesting this decision as the referees told them that they too wanted the match abandoned.

We wish everyone hurt the quickest of recoveries.  Even though the match is over, we surely haven’t heard the last of this incident going forward as Marseille will try and protest the final result of the match.

We’re back to clear and sunny weather for August’s last full week

We’re back to clear and sunny weather for August’s last full week
Aug 23 2021 Share

Weather forecasts from multiple sources are pointing towards a sunny and rather warm week ahead as August draws to a close. After several localities in Malta experienced some rain showers, the weather has cleared up and it seems to be staying as such up for these 7 days.

Temperatures are set to feel like 35 and 36 degrees Celsius with a low UV of 9. Chances of more rain are also very low at around 5 to 15% spread throughout. Winds are set to rack up a Force 2 and 3 to kick off the week.

Summer lovers make sure to make the best of this week as the weather starts to shift towards more cold nights and more frequent rainfall. Stay safe and avoid the sea when the wind is crashing waves against the shoreline, but try to enjoy the waning summer days as much as possible!

Afghan mother gives birth while on Kabul evacuation flight

Afghan mother gives birth while on Kabul evacuation flight
Aug 23 2021 Share

As thousands of Afghans rush to Kabul airport to secure a safe voyage from the now Taliban-occupied Afghanistan, a woman has given birth during an evacuation flight. A statement tweeted by the Air Mobility Command, the mother had been travelling from an Intermediate Staging Base in the Middle East on August 21st. While on the C-17 flight, the woman went into labour, albeit with some complications.

The aircraft commander decided to descend in altitude in order to increase air pressure within the aircraft. This helped stabilise and save the mother’s life. The baby girl was delivered in the cargo bay after the plane landed at Germany’s Ramstein Air base. Mother and daughter were taken to a nearby medical facility where they were both alleged to be in good condition. This story comes as more Afghans are attempting to escape the country after the US withdrawal of troops opened a pocket of power for the Taliban. Gunfire has also been reported in the airport as new information is updated.
