On the day of his birthday, local media personality & former Xarabank presenter Peppi Azzopardi received quite a pleasant surprise from a Filipino woman he had helped years ago.

In a video posted on the Xarabank Facebook page, Peppi stated that the Filipino woman, who he had helped a few years back, showed up at his door with a birthday cake on the special occasion.

After putting the cake on the table and blowing out the candles, he lifted the cake to find 55 five euro notes attached to each other, one for every year Peppi has lived. The money cake is reportedly a recent Filipino tradition, with the woman telling Peppi that she wanted to ‘give back’ for all the times he helped her: “I am giving you this money so you can give it to the people in need.”

Azzopardi concluded by stating that this was ‘the best birthday gift he had ever received’.

“Malta is NOT a safe country”, Adrian Delia says in recent post amid safety worries

Aug 25 2022 Share

Former PN leader Adrian Delia has recently aired his concerns on Facebook post stating that Malta, unlike in the past, is no longer a safe country amid recent safety worries in numerous Maltese cities and neighbourhoods.

These past few weeks has seen many incidents in cities such as Hamrun and Birzebbuga, where individuals and even groups can be seen attacking others or using offensive language.

These incidents have also led Prime Minister Robert Abela to meet with the mayors of Hamrun and Marsa in order to improve security within their communities.

Valletta has also seen some issues regarding safety lately. A few days ago police conducted a raid which resulted in 7 people being arrested as a commotion was raised in the zone, with people in the vicinity hearing lots of noise and shouting.

Despite this, the past few years have seen Malta be named the safest country to live in in Europe by multiple studies, including German University Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s World Risk Report. In 2019 Malta was ranked 1st in Europe and 2nd globally in terms of safety. The countries were judged over a few criteria including wealth growth, economic growth, press freedom and women’s safety.

Despite all the rankings many Maltese people have started to worry about the safety on the island with crime rates increasing more in certain localities. What do you make of this situation?
