PN MP Jerome Caruana Cilia asks Minister of Finance from where €200 million will be cut

Aug 25 2022 Share

PN MP Jerome Caruana Cilia has recently gone to his Facebook to ask the Minister of Finance Clyde Caruana from where €200 million will be cut ahead of this year’s much awaited budget.

He has urged the Finance Minister to fully publish the details of the cuts.

Caruana Cilia went on to ask “Can he tell us where he got these millions from? Can the Minister say on what criteria this reduction was made? Can the Minister say whether he has consulted with the MCESD?”

He continued by reminding the minister that the budget has to be approved from the parliament and for that reason he should reveal from where will these massive cuts be made.

The PN MP wrapped up his post by saying “The Minister cannot let a country wait almost two months to know where this reduction took place.”

Birdlife Malta ask Prime Minister to postpone hunting season

Aug 25 2022 Share

Birdlife Malta has written to the Prime Minister asking him to postpone the start of the fall hunting season to the 15th of October.

This demand came after the “the massacre of 40 Black Kites (Astun Iswed)” which are supposed to be legally protected birds in Malta. The NGO later confirmed that the birds were shot over the 22nd and 23rd of August.

According to Birdlife the Environment Protection Unit within the police were unable to attend the report, meaning the hunter were left free with no consequences for their crime.

Birdlife CEO Mark Sultana had this to say “The situation of bird protection has not been as bad since the 1980s. The way hunters are being given all they desire and at the same time enforcement and regulations are weakened is not only shameful but also illegal,”

“The Prime Minister should immediately condemn what has happened. The least he could do is to suspend the opening of the hunting season till after 15th October to safeguard the migration of protected species like raptors and herons.”

He continued on by stating “If Robert Abela cannot reassure that illegal hunting will be fought against with strict enforcement and better laws, then Malta should not have hunting seasons,”
