WATCH: Could President George Vella resign over abortion bill?

Could President George Vella resign over abortion bill?
Nov 30 2022 Share

In light of the current debate about abortion, a past interview of President George Vella has re-surfaced on social media.

Speaking to Net News in May 2021, George Vella had declared that he would not sign any bill that allows any kind of “murder.” He had said that he is aware that he would not be able to stop the bill from coming into force but mentioned that he is free to resign and let another president sign instead.

This week, the Maltese Parliament started discussing an amendment to the Criminal Code to clarify the legal position of the attending physician and the mother in circumstances where the pregnancy leads to the mother suffering from a medical complication that could put her life at risk or health in grave danger.

Even though, President George Vella was very clear about his position back in 2021, no official statement has been issued in light of the resurfaced discussions.

Times of Malta are claiming to have sources who said that “George Vella has told people close to him he is prepared to resign if parliament approves the law amendments.” Their sources said that he is mainly concerned about the proposed change that would allow for the termination of a pregnancy when a woman’s health, rather than her life, are at risk.

If this ends up happening, George Vella will be the first President in the history of the country, to resign from this position.

England ease past neighbours Wales to qualify for knockout stage

Nov 29 2022 Share

England have beaten neighbours Wales with a dominating performance and a score line to match it with the game ending 3-0, to qualify for the knockout stage of the World Cup.

The first half did not include many scoring opportunities as Wales’s defence managed to shut out most of the dangerous chances created by the English players.

Manchester United starlet Marcus Rashford managed to score the opener from a lovely taken free kick in the 50th minute. Once the first goal was scored it seemed like the floodgates were open for the English players as only a minute after their free kick goal, Phil Foden scored to double their lead and break every Welsh fan’s hearts.

It was clearly Marcus Rashford’s night as in the 67th minute he managed to score his second of the game to properly close the tie and shit down any chances of a miracle comeback by Wales.

England will now be preparing for their crucial Round of 16 match versus Senegal whilst Wales will be heading home with their heads held high being their first World Cup appearance since 1958.

The weather was forecasted earlier this week after yet another tempest which hit the island as the winter season finally settles in.

Such weather always comes with the associated warnings by authorities so as to avoid any injuries or casualties that might occur. Stay safe out there!
