WATCH: Conor McGregor & Machine Gun Kelly in heated argument on VMA red carpet

Sep 13 2021 Share

The Barclays Center in New York was brimming with celebrities on Sunday evening for the 2021 edition of the MTV Video Music Awards but things started to heat up as the night progressed.

Despite claiming that “absolutely nothing” happened, video footage has emerged showing the Irish MMA fighter and American rapper exchange in a heated back-and-forth before McGregor lunged at the artist and threw a drink at him. The security arrived just in time to separate the stars before they came to blows.

Reports have stated that the altercation began when McGregor asked Machine Gun Kelly for a photo, which the rapper denied, reportedly shoved McGregor and made him stumble backwards and spill his drink. MGK, real name Colson Baker’s girlfriend Megan Fox was seen being escorted beyond the melee while the situation diffused.

The two were seen in the audience at the award show soon after, with McGregor telling an Entertainment Tonight representative that he only fights real fighters and he most certainly does not fight ‘little Vanilla Ice white rappers’.

“It makes no sense”: MEP Alex Agius Saliba criticises Malta’s quarantine hotel rule

"It makes no sense": MEP Alex Agius Saliba criticises Malta's quarantine hotel rule
Sep 13 2021 Share

Following the controversy surrounding influencer Daniel Umanah’s request for his sister with Down’s syndrome to quarantine at home and the subsequent refusal of the request, MEP Alex Agius Saliba gave his two cents on the situation.

The Labour MEP went on to state that while it is the Superintendent for Public Health’s prerogative to impose obligatory quarantine on individuals who arrive in Malta from countries with a considerable COVID-19 spread, the current system forcing arrivals to quarantine at particular hotels does not make any sense.

Agius Saliba alluded to the case of Rachel Umanah, who has just arrived from Nigeria with her brother Daniel who was doing charity work in the town of Ikot Imo. Umanah himself had also stated that it is unfair and ridiculous that the entire Maltese national football team was exempt from having to quarantine in general, while Rachel’s case is being denied. A spokesperson for the Health Ministry has since stated that the team was exempt from quarantine because they were not in contact with the community and followed UEFA guidelines.

Should employers have the right to ask employees about vaccination status?
Sep 13 2021 Share

The Malta Chamber of SMEs has proposed that employers should have the right to know whether or not their employees have been vaccinated and if they have been to high-risk countries. This proposal was part of the chamber’s annual budget proposals and consisted of 26 items covering a variety of aspects of the local economy such as COVID-19 restrictions and employees choosing not to get vaccinated being unable to receive paid quarantine leave.

The chamber also proposed that employees travelling to high-risk countries shouldn’t be entitled to paid quarantine leave. The proposals also include incentives for socially-distances activities such as team-building to increase morale within employees.

Amongst others, the chamber also called for pandemic assistance schemes such as bank loan moratoria and wage supplements to aid the businesses which have been hit the hardest by the pandemic. Further proposals include the lowering of income tax, digitisation of businesses, no ODZ development in Gozo and more.

McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo wins Monza as Hamilton and Verstappen crash

Sep 13 2021 Share

Yesterday, one of the most iconic F1 races of the year in Monza occurred. Monza is one of the few race tracks around the world that are generally known like Silverstone or the Monaco street circuit. Monza is renowned for it being one of the fastest tracks around, so much so that it’s nickname is the ‘Temple of Speed’.

This year’s race again delivered as we had an unusual winner in Daniel Ricciardo, incredible racing from drivers like Bottas and risen tensions in Lewis’ and Max’s rivalry. This race was also the second time that the sprint qualifying format was used, after its success in Silverstone.

McLaren stole the show throughout the weekend as after an impressive qualifying and Sprint race they found themselves starting the race at 2nd and 3rd position. Daniel Riccardio who before Monza wasn’t having the best of seasons, highly impressed in the sprint race starting 4th and finishing 2nd. This good performance continued the next day as after overpassing Max Verstappen on the first corner he managed to guide himself to his first race win since 2018 and McLaren’s first race win since 2012. Other McLaren driver Lando Norris also impresses coming in 2nd.

The other highlight of the day was Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton’s crash. This crash like the one in Silverstone was very controversial as it wasn’t really clear who’s fault it was. However the FIA thought otherwise, as after the race ended they announced that Max will be serving a 3-grid penalty in his next race. Hamilton after the race thanked the halo of his car for saving his life.

Congratulations to McLaren for winning their first race since 2012 and becoming the first team this season to have both drivers finishing 1st and 2nd.
