Addressing former candidate Mario Galea’s comments that the Nationalist Party ‘made his life hell’, PN Leader Bernard Grech told Malta Daily that he never tried to push anyone away but rather, is doing his best to bring more people closer to the party.

Grech sustained that he treated Galea with utmost respect and always presented him with appropriate opportunities. He went on to state that if Galea didn’t feel comfortable within the party, he had every right to withdraw his candidacy, stating that he did not request anyone’s withdrawal.

The PN leader went on to highlight the importance of the Nationalist Party’s regeneration, welcoming the participation of new candidates and faces of all ages, especially the youth.

More traffic jams due to accident before tal-Qroqq tunnel

Maltese Roads Traffic Updates revealed that another traffic accident occurred just before tal-Qroqq tunnel in the direction towards the Kappara flyover.

Traffic is very slow moving, following another traffic jam which occurred this morning due to a four-car collision in Marsa.

The road closed due to the four-car collision has since been open. Traffic updates to be released as the situation unfolds.

€25,000 raised to repatriate Ajay Shrestha’s body back to Nepal

A whopping €25,000 were raised to repatriate Ajay Shrestha’s body back to Nepal so that the burial process can commence.

The initial target was to raise up to €7,000 but the raising of funds continued on well post the target. The rest of the money will be given as financial aid to his family back in Nepal.

The raising of funds was launched on Friday, with the target amount collected in just four hours. Another €700 were also raised from a separate fundraiser organised by a Maltese woman who wanted to support Ajay’s family.

Shrestha was sadly killed when a lorry overturned in Marsa last week. With the body released for burial, his body should arrive on Saturday in Nepal. The 28-year-old was working as a food-courier driving a motorcycle when he was hit by a lamp-post and scrap metal on the lorry.

Relatives and friends demanded answers on why the accident happened as they await the body to arrive so that the Hindu funeral ritual could commence.

This is how St George’s bay in St Julian’s could look like

After the bustling entertainment hub of St. Julian’s welcomed another 34-storey tower after it was given the green light by the Environment Resources and Authority (ERA), new designs show what the area could end up looking like.

The development will include a 34-storey tower next to Bay Street, as well as another 27-storey tower in the middle of the 50,000 square meter site as a large public square between the two buildings. However, ERA has concluded that the high-rise development at Villa Rosa warrants a new environment impact assessment (EIA) to assess its impacts on the protected Ħarq Ħammiem valley.

ERA expressed concerns that the high rise development proposed on the site could result in the ‘shadowing’ of the adjacent protected natural areas. It also expressed concern that excavations will be conducted nearer to the Ħarq Ħammiem cave than previously envisaged in a permit issued four years ago.The development includes a huge public open space over 20,086 square meters, including a piazza, natural areas and circulation spaces within the Villa Rosa Grounds and a 3,277 square meter open space at Cresta Quay.

ERA expressed concern at the significant intensification of development proposed on the site. Since the open space will be located between the proposed buildings and the promenade along the coast, the most intensive development will be pushed to the periphery of the site. According to a project development statement by developers, the project will create a signature destination for Malta by offering a quality tourism destination and enriching the local community.
