This nationwide initiative is an attempt to brighten up the lives of locals after a turbulent few months ridden with shocking street brawls and heated online arguments. Whether it’s distributing free fuel vouchers or heading to local beaches to provide a fresh and healthy snack, we are committed to spreading the kindness so that you can too.

For today’s act of kindness Andrew and the team visited Ġnejna to distribute a couple of fresh salads thanks to one of Malta Daily’s partners Salad Box Malta. With Malta registering record-high temperatures weekly, a salad is just what you need to satisfy your summer cravings while staying refreshed and hydrated, which is why we saw it as the opportune moment to spread some kindness.

Judging by the looks on people’s faces, receiving a free salad from a random stranger is not only a pleasant surprise, but a well-received change of pace from the daily arguments and fisticuffs we have come accustomed to seeing. At the end of the day, making someone else’s day better requires two things: a positive mindset and a little bit of effort, which is why we are encouraging everyone to follow suit and spread the kindness.

DJ Ryan Spiteri’s emotional posts capture the struggles of many artists during the pandemic

Locally beloved DJ Ryan Spiteri took to Facebook with a heartwarming post expressing his pre- and post-COVID-19 sentiments. He opened his post, structured almost as a poem, by stating how he used to dream of expressing his passion for music and DJ-ing in front of a ‘sea’ of people. He dreamed of being loved by his audience as he made them move to exciting tracks and beats.

Now, however, he states he has ended up dreaming of playing once again. He longs for when he can embrace the spotlight and reignite the passion he had before the pandemic. The last sentence radiates powerfully as he expresses how he dreams for the regulations to change and be fair for everyone. 

In a separate post, Spiteri accompanies a photo of himself on the verge of tears with a caption stating; ‘To my people – please keep me in your minds so I can come back strong as you all know me. He appealed to the public to keep him in their prayers, capturing the toll of not being able to practice one’s passion and having rules spread out fairly for everyone. We are with you Ryan!

Sean Gravina swears to closing his restaurant should the virus attack children

Local celebrity chef Sean Gravina took to Facebook to share his thoughts on the UK’s easing of measures and the way forward in a pandemic ridden world. He stated that the UK’s easing of all its restrictions when it comes to COVID-19 will prompt local authorities to watch closely what happens in the epidemiological context. Gravina stated that the only serious repercussions which matter now are deaths and hospitalisations, and that we should move forward as a nation from cases and numbers as a serious repercussion.

He stated that should the virus, ‘GOD FORBID’, starts attacking children, he will be the first to close his restaurant or move out of his home in order to work. Aside from that, Gravina believes Malta should seriously start moving on and start allowing people to live their lives. The mental damage is very real, he stated, even though the local industries did their best. He pointed out that with over 80% of the population vaccinated and herd immunity achieved, Malta should start considering what the UK has done and only maintain control on the island’s borders. He ended his message stating that the virus is here to stay, urging everyone to get vaccinated and get back to living life.

Sharing is Caring campaign raises €20,000 through governmental vouchers

The Sharing is Caring campaign is still going strong after it has already collected €20,000 for 10 charities through governmental COVID-19 vouchers. Set up by the Sigma Foundation, Forestals and RUBS, the project has managed to draw in €2,000  worth of vouchers for each of the charities. The aim is to raise yet another €10,000, with Sigma Foundation CPO Keith Marshall expressing how the campaign was approached by too many charities. 

Inspire, Foodbank Malta, Dar Hosea, the Missionary Movement and RMJ Horse Rescue have joined the project. Marshall appealed to the public understanding, being empathetic and generous. The first attempt at raising €20,000 was made in January, the original date for the vouchers’ release. 

A spike in cases resulted in the delay of the scheme when businesses were ordered to close their doors. The government subsequently boosted €45 million into the new round, racking up a total value of €100 being distributed to all over-16 residents. The initiate also took a planned approach second-time around as they asked voucher recipients to donate them before they even received them.This is because, Marshall pointed out, the first initiative was late. Many had already used their vouchers by the time they were approached.
