Taylor Swift had a historic night at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, breaking records and setting new milestones. She won Video of the Year for her collaboration with Post Malone, “Fortnight,” making her the first artist to win the award three years in a row. This also extended her record for the most Video of the Year wins to five. She previously won in 2023 for “Anti-Hero,” 2022 for All Too Well: The Short Film, 2019 for “You Need to Calm Down,” and 2015 for “Bad Blood.”

In her acceptance speech, Swift thanked her fans, saying, “I’m always trying to find a way to thank you for making my life what it is, for making the Eras tour what it has become, and for the success of Tortured Poets Department. This is all because of you and your votes. Thank you, MTV, for giving me this opportunity to express my gratitude.”

Swift entered the night with 12 nominations, poised to hit several milestones, and ended by tying Beyoncé as the most awarded artist in VMA history. Technically, she surpassed Beyoncé’s solo record. Before the 2024 VMAs, Swift held 23 VMAs, while Beyoncé had 30, counting her solo work and collaborations with Destiny’s Child and Jay-Z as The Carters. Swift’s seven wins during the ceremony brought her total to 25 as a solo artist, edging her past Beyoncé in individual achievements. Although Beyoncé was nominated for three awards this year, she didn’t add to her collection.
