Watch: Volunteer helps lost Olympian get to his semi-final race

Aug 13 2021 Share

Hansle Parchment is a Jamaican hurdler that recently won gold in the 110m hurdle race. The funny thing about his gold medal win is that the athlete nearly missed his semi-final.

Hansle went up to his bus, a bus that he later found out will take him to the Aquatics center, which was the wrong location. When he arrived he said that he was worried out of his depth, and that he didn’t know what to do. He immediately started calling for an official Olympics car, but when he noticed that he wouldn’t be able to get one he started begging for money to get a taxi.

At the Aquatics center, Hansle met Trijana, a Japanese volunteer helping out. Trijana gave him enough money for a taxi and helped him out with directions. In a video he posted later on Instagram, he stated how thankful he was to the volunteer and that Japanese people are the nicest people around. That wasn’t the best news for Trijana though, as Jamaica’s minister of tourism invited her to a personal tour of the Caribbean island for her generosity.

Woman’s vouchers refused at retail unless extra fee paid

A woman posting to Facebook group ‘Are You Being Served? (Malta & Gozo) Original’ unveiled how her government vouchers were turned away whilst buying two pairs of sandals which were on sale. She revealed how when offering the vouchers, the salesperson stated that they could not accept the vouchers unless an extra 1.50 Euros for each voucher as ‘that is what they have to pay the government’.

The salesperson also allegedly stated how the vouchers wouldn’t make it worth their while when it came to sale items. The woman paid in cash, but asked if anyone has experienced a similar situation. A commenter labelled this as theft, stating she would have just walked out without buying anything and that the woman should name and shame whoever was involved.

Turtle surfaces dead after being hit by boat

Turtle surfaces dead after being hit by boat
Aug 13 2021 Share

Posting to Facebook, maritime environmental expert Alan Deidun posted photos of a dead loggerhead turtle at Hondoq ir-Rummien. Deidun said that the turtle was possibly hit by a boat or jet ski, resulting in the deadly dent on the sea creature’s shell.

Deidun exclaimed how the sea has become too dangerous for creatures such as marine turtles, as they have to surface at certain points during their coast surveying for nest creation.

The post was met with much anger and sadness at the unfortunate killing, with many expressing how dangerous for sea animals Malta’s waters have become. This news comes just days after a local sea turtle nicknamed Diana was the centre of much local social media attention as it swam in Marsascala.
