The incident was one of three fatal road accidents recorded on Sunday, making it a particularly tragic day on Malta’s roads.

Earlier that afternoon, a woman was killed in a head-on collision in Fgura. A few hours later, a motorcyclist lost his life in a separate incident in Pietà.

This followed another fatal accident on Saturday, when a motorcyclist died in a crash, bringing the weekend death toll from road accidents to four.
