UOM Professor Recalls Late Laura Rio’s Youth Activism

In a heartfelt post on social media this past weekend, local Professor Andrew Azzoaprdi shared a tribute to the late Laura Rio, a 30 year old youth worker who passed away on Tuesday.
‘What heart break. Oh how much your family and friends cried for you. There were so many people. How did you manage to plant such goodness and love in such a short time’, he wrote.
‘Every act of yours was a mix of humanity, love, self-giving and the genuine’ he continued, going on to share a telephone conversation they had as she expressed her concern for safety at the Msida skate park.
‘Her urgency wasn’t to change the world, but to change the world of at least a boy, girl or a teenager. As Fr Stefan said, you had a passion for social justice.’
‘Thank you Laura. I still wish we are still talking about the Masters I wished you started with us. We won’t forget you and be assured that we will take care of your mother as well.’
Rest in Peace Laura.
