Malta by the Numbers: Weird Stats You Won’t Believe Are True
Local

This tiny island is full of sunshine, history and surprises – but did you know that some of Malta’s numbers are so weird they’ll make your eyebrows fly off? Get ready for Malta by the Numbers, where the facts are real and the stats are seriously wild!

1. There are more cars than people!

Yep, you read that right. Malta has around 434,000 people – but over 430,000 vehicles! That’s nearly one car per person. Ever wondered why parking is such a nightmare?

2. Over 365 churches – one for each day!

That’s right. Malta and Gozo together have more than 365 churches. Some are huge, some are tiny, and some are hidden in little villages. Locals joke you could visit a new one every day of the year!

3. Malta gets over 300 sunny days a year!

No need for snow boots here. Malta is one of the sunniest places in Europe, with over 300 days of sunshine a year. That’s why sunscreen is your best friend!

4. The oldest free-standing temples on Earth

Malta’s Ġgantija Temples are over 5,600 years old – even older than the pyramids of Egypt! Built with massive stones, they still stand today like ancient giants.

5. Malta is only 27km long!

You could walk across the whole country in a day. It’s about 27 kilometres from end to end, which means even your school bus ride might be longer than that.

6. One of the densest countries in the world

Malta might be small, but it’s super crowded! It has one of the highest population densities in the world – meaning lots of people in a very small space.

7. Malta once had a record-breaking cat café

At one point, Malta had one of the highest numbers of stray cats per square kilometre. It’s no wonder they opened cat cafés – the cats basically run the place.

So now you know – Malta may be tiny, but its numbers are massive when it comes to weird and wonderful stats.
