Police were informed yesterday at around 2300hrs that a 72-year-old elderly man had not returned home after he had gone fishing at Ghar Hasan in Birzebbuga earlier in the afternoon.

District police convened on the site where the man had reportedly been fishing, and found his vehicle as well as some personal items and fishing equipment.

A search and rescue operation was immediately launched by police and Civil Protection. The Armed Forces of Malta also assisted in the search at sea via patrol boat and helicopter.

Unfortunately, a corpse was spotted this morning at around 1000hrs in a cavern entrance by the AFM’s diving squad. The corpse was identified as the missing 72-year-old man, whose corpse was later taken to the maritime base in Xatt it-Tiben.

From preliminary investigations, it was found that the man fell by accident off the cliffs as he was fishing. Magistrate Dr Victor Axiak LL.D was informed of the case as police investigations continue.

Paul Walker to get star on Hollywood Walk of Fame 10 years after passing

Fast and Furious star Paul Walker is set to receive a posthumous star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame 10 years after his tragic passing.

Walker passed away in a car crash back in November 2013 whilst in the midst of production for Furious 7, in which he starred as beloved Brian O’Conner.

The film was just one of many Fast and Furious franchise movies Walker appeared in throughout his career. The creators paid homage to him in the film with an emotional goodbye scene wherein Vin Diesel parts way with his brother in arms.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced his work will be officially honoured with a star, one of three posthumous tributes alongside Juanita Moore and Jenni Rivera.

The news was celebrated by Walker’s daughter, Meadow, who shared a picture of her dad in his younger years and described him as part of the ‘Hollywood Walk of Fame Class of 2023.’ “Congratulations daddy!,” she continued. “I know young you would never believe it!

‘I also know you’re looking down with your infectious smile feeling embarrassed and grateful. You earned this and deserve it and more. I love you!’ From the Fast franchise, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron all already have stars.

Nano-machines that penetrate and kill cancer cells developed by scientists

Nano-machines that penetrate and kill cancer cells developed by scientists
Jun 18 2022 Share

Researchers have recently made yet another breakthrough in the treatment of cancer as they developed tiny nano-machines which can kill cancerous cells.

The research team was headed by Dr Youngdo Jeong from the Centre for Advanced Bio-molecular Recognition at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology. Their latest creation are specially engineered molecules able to penetrate cancerous cells and destroy them internally.

The nano-machines can reportedly kill cancer cells incredibly fast, attaching themselves to the surface of the cells and drilling into the outer membrane within a couple of minutes.

The molecules burrow into the cell and repeatedly unfold and fold while inside, creating holes and killing the cancer without using harmful drugs. Dr Jeong said that this could overcome the side effects of chemotherapy as an alternative.

“We propose a novel method of directly penetrating cancer cells to kill them via the mechanical movements of molecules attached to nano-machines without drugs.”

Remarkably, this is not the only medical breakthrough when it comes to cancer curing this month. As these new molecules undergo trials, another drug tested just days ago generated a baffling 100% success rate. It might be a while before such remedies could be fully applied, but the science into this field is yielding massive results.
