Two Sea Related Deaths In Separate Incidents

Police are investigating two separate incidents wherein persons lost heir life whilst swimming.

The first accident took place at around 0100hrs, when police were informed that a 25 year old man of Nepalese nationality and resident of Ħal Qormi, was taken to Mater Dei Hospital after finding difficulty whilst swimming in the area of Exiles, Tas-Sliema.

Preliminary investigations show that the victim had gone swimming with friends when for some reason he found difficulty.

His friends pulled him ashore and called for help. He was unfortunately pronounced deceased after he was taken to hospital.

Later, at around 0715hrs, police assistance was requested in Xlendi Bay when people noted an unconscious person at sea.

Persons on site gave assistance and pulled the victim, a man, to shore. A medical team arrived on site but the 67 year old man from Birżebbuġa was certified deceased.

Two inquiries have been opened and police are investigating.

Clarification: police confirmed that the second victim was not a resident of Birżebbuġa but Munxar, Gozo.
