Two Fires Reported A tAħrax, Mellieħa

The Malta Ranger Unit (MRU) has confirmed that two fires broke out in Aħrax, Mellieħa, yesterday morning, prompting increased patrols in the area.
The first incident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. near the Red Cross station. A staff member raised the alarm and contacted the Civil Protection Department. The fire, which started in an area without campers, has been described as “suspicious”, with rangers noting it is not the first such blaze linked to illegal waste dumping.
Later in the morning, a second fire was reported near Campsite B, where a pile of rubbish below the cliffs caught alight. The Civil Protection Department, Police, and a helicopter response were deployed to contain the flames.
The Malta Ranger Unit has announced that patrols in Aħrax will be stepped up in light of the incidents.
