Turtle Entangled In Plastic Debris & Wooden Stick Rescued

Xrobb L-Għaġin Nature Park and Wildlife Rehab Centre took to social media to share footage and photos of Dora, a loggerhead turtle rescued from Paradise Bay after she was spotted in distress, entangled in plastic debris and a wooden stick.
It was evident that Dora, who was rescued by Dorianne and Ralph Mifsud, had ingested a fishing line which was protruding from both her mouth and cloaca.
The Mifsuds swam to her aid, bringing her aboard their boat and contacted emergency services.
‘Thanks to the efforts of another compassionate individual, Kenneth, Dora was transported to shore were our dedicated volunteers were ready to facilitate her transfer to Xrobb l-Għaġin for immediate care.’
Dora is currently recuperating at the rehab centre.
‘It is important to remember that sea turtles and other local wildlife are protected by law, and any instances of distress should be reported to the Wildlife Rescue Team Malta 9999 9505. In situations like Dora’s, where entanglement occurs, it is crucial not to cut any lines or debris but to wait for trained volunteers to handle the rescue.’
It’s also a reminder to the general public to keep our seas clean and dispose of waste properly.
