Search and rescue teams from all over the world, including Malta’s own Civil Protection Department dispatch, have come together to attempt to pull any survivors from the devastating scenes of the earthquakes.
In some cities, thousands came together in moments of joy as rescuers pulled survivors and children from under the rubble but despite this, various groups and authorities have claimed that hope is fading.
Those who were lucky to survive now face what has been dubbed as a “secondary disaster”, having to deal with homelessness in weather conditions dubbed ‘worsening and horrific’ by the World Health Organisation.
