Disney Pixar has officially announced “Toy Story 5,” with Andrew Stanton returning to direct the next chapter in the beloved franchise. At D23, Stanton revealed that this instalment will see Woody and Buzz facing new challenges as they contend with the rise of electronics competing for children’s attention.

Disney CEO Bob Iger first confirmed the sequel in February 2023, alongside new entries in the “Frozen” and “Zootopia” series. Unlike the spinoff “Lightyear,” this sequel will focus on the core story of Woody and Buzz. Tim Allen, who had previously expressed reservations about continuing the series, later confirmed that he and Tom Hanks are on board for the new film. Allen noted that the new script has impressed him, raising hopes for a compelling continuation of the franchise.

“Toy Story 4,” released in 2019, was a major success, earning over $1 billion globally and receiving widespread acclaim. Despite initial concerns that a sequel might diminish the perfect conclusion of “Toy Story 3,” the fourth film was well-received. “Toy Story 5” is set to hit theaters on June 19, 2026.
