A historic 1938 comic showcasing Superman’s debut fetched an astonishing $6 million at auction, marking it as the most expensive comic ever sold, reported by Heritage Auctions, the auction house responsible for the sale.

This particular issue, Action Comics No. 1, introduced Superman to the world for a mere 10 cents per copy 86 years ago, shaping the course of comic book history.

Described by Heritage Auctions Vice President Barry Sandoval as the “most important, impactful comic book ever published,” Action Comics No. 1 played a critical role in defining the Golden Age of comics and influencing the medium’s evolution.

Despite its age, the comic remains in remarkably good condition, boasting vivid colors with minimal wear at the top. Only two other unrestored copies are known to be in better condition, out of an estimated surviving total of just 100 from the original 200,000 print run.

The story, penned by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, unfolds Superman’s origin as an alien child sent to Earth to escape his planet’s destruction, introducing iconic characters like Lois Lane.

This issue’s exceptional value is evident from individual loose pages fetching up to $60,000 each. Previous sales of similar comics have set records, with one selling for $3.25 million in 2021 and another private sale in 2022 fetching $5.3 million for Superman #1.

Superman’s enduring legacy has transcended comics, making him an iconic figure in American pop culture, inspiring movies, books, toys, and more.

With the support of Childs Farm, Borg Cardona Pet Supplies, APS Bank and Waggo’s, MSPCA is looking to educate 7 to 11 year olds through different lesson plans and activities which encourage more awareness about the abuses animals face on a daily basis and try and mitigate this negative impact.
