Aug 3 2024 Share

Local running phenomenon Tommy Wallbank has completed another run in memory of his childhood friend Rebecca Zammit Lupi, who tragically passed away from cancer three years ago.

This marks the second birthday run Wallbank has organized for Rebecca Zammit Lupi, and like last year, it was a great success.

The run began early at 6:15 am from Surfside in Sliema. Wallbank, joined by other local runners, made their way to Qui Si Sana, returned to Surfside, continued up to the Love Sign in St. Julian’s, and then made their way back to Surfside one final time.

Speaking to Malta Daily, Tommy Wallbank confirmed that the run went very well and according to plan. He also mentioned that around 30 local runners joined him in this charitable cause.

The run raised funds for Nature Trust Malta and RMJ Horse Rescue Malta, with donations surpassing €900, as confirmed by Tommy Wallbank.

Donations are still open and can be made via Revolut to 7730 0305.

Beppe Grillo Becomes Last Athlete To Represent Malta At 2024 Paris Olympics

Aug 3 2024 Share

Architecture student and local sprinter, Beppe Grillo has become the last athlete to represent Malta at the 2024 Paris Olympics, by placing fifth in his 100m heat.

Grillo participated in the sixth heat of the preliminary round against another 7 athletes and ended up in 5th position, a disappointing result for Grillo who had the second personal best time amongst all the other sprinters.

This was not enough to qualify for the next round, with Grillo needing a top 2 place to continue his Olympic journey.

Grillo crossed the finish line with a 10.69 seconds,  0.46 seconds slower than his national record of 10.23 he set at the Balkan Championships in May.

A big well done still has to go to Beppe Grillo who despite not obtaining the result he would have wanted, made everyone in Malta proud by representing the tiny island to his best on the grandest stage of them all.
