When questioned by Nationalist MP Adrian Delia in parliament, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Aaron Farrugia revealed that the two Transport Malta officials who were suspended after being filmed beating up a man are currently suspended and receiving half their salary.

Farrugia said that Rene Antonelli and Ivan Cassar are on half pay as per a collective agreement which was signed with the union representing TM’s workers.

The two officers were filmed physically assaulting a driver as he was laying down in the middle of the road in Qormi Road, Marsa.

The incident reportedly occurred on the 26th of October, but was made public by Lovin Malta on the 15th November. Internal investigations by police are ongoing.

According to the police inspector, Roderick Cassar showed no emotion when being interrogated.

As court started hearing the case against Roderick Cassar, accused of murdering his wife Bernice, more details about what happened last Tuesday, were explained in court by multiple police officials.

Whilst taking the stand, a police inspector explained that Cassar wanted the police officers to shoot him since he was scared to try and take his own life as he could have survived.

The police inspector taking the stand said that during the interrogation, the alleged murderer was feeling very tired and was allowed to rest. They stated that Cassar didn’t show emotions when speaking about the victim but “was sorry for what happened to her.” Cassar however, started crying when his children were mentioned.

This hearing is the first of its kind in Maltese criminal history since it is the first alleged femicide since this new law came into place.

The 42-year-old is pleading not guilty to all those charges.

Twitter could be removed from App Store: Musk says he’ll create new phone

Twitter could be removed from App Store: Musk says he’ll create new phone
Nov 29 2022 Share

Elon Musk has hit back at speculation that Twitter could be removed from the Apple Store by suggesting that he could create an alternative smartphone.

The richest man alive took over Twitter through a $44 billion deal, but there has been speculation that Apple is threatening Twitter’s presence on the App Store for ‘safety’ reasons.

This came after Musk responded to a string of tweets asking whether this was true with a simple ‘yes’ answer. Musk says that Apple won’t say why this could happen.

‘Do they hate free speech in America’ asked Musk on the platform as he pushed for an answer from Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook. No response was issued however, and Musk came up with his own ingenious plan.

‘I certainly hope it does not come to that, but, yes, if there is no other choice, I will make an alternative phone’ he said in a Twitter thread.

However, Apple does have guidelines which state that apps are to remain on the Apple Store for iPhones by adhering to these rules. Those guidelines are rooted in the idea of ‘safety’.

The first page reads: “When people install an app from the App Store, they want to feel confident that it’s safe to do so — that the app doesn’t contain upsetting or offensive content.” Musk’s Twitter takeover has been a complete roller coaster ride, and there don’t seem to be any brakes to hit just yet.
