He holds that empathy is the biggest value in politics – ‘why does someone go to a politician for help? It’s not because they’re lazy or because they don’t want to improve their life. It’s probably because they truly need the help.’

Elsewhere during the interview, Luke reflected on whether he would enter politics, saying that he would leave it until he is around 50 years old and after having worked so as not to rely on politics to make money.

He also acknowledged that politicians need to be paid more so that they aren’t forced to think of how to make money through illicit means.

‘We Have The Balls To Listen To Criticism’: PM In Discussion With Artists

In a discussion with artists, Prime Minister Robert Abela addressed concerns posed by attendees and ensured them that his government has taken up the challenge – ‘had the balls’ – to listen to criticism in order to improve.

The Prime Minister acknowledged all the issues raised by attendees, notably by Matthew Maggi who raised a number of issues in relation to various industries, such as that of films.

The Prime Minister said all the improvements and changes to the artistic sectors depends on investment and this means planning 10, 15 and 20 years ahead for concrete changes.

The discussion took place in Spazju Kreattiv, with a discussion panel headed by actress Frida Cauchi, writer and director Alan Cassar, film critic Mario Azzopardi and DJ and entrepreneur Isaak Koroma.

Many in attendance emphasised the need for more incentives and schemes for the sector, a need for a concert hall, as well as coordination between public and private entities in the organisation in cultural activities.

Dead Rare Angelshark Washes Up In Marsaxlokk

Dead Rare Angelshark Washes Up In Marsaxlokk
Oct 20 2024 Share

A rare common angelshark (Squatina squatina) was found dead on the shore of Marsaxlokk, Malta, as reported by the NGO Sharklab Malta.

The 101cm female shark, a critically endangered species, was likely discarded from a fishing boat due to its lack of commercial value.

Angelsharks are highly protected and adapted to blend into the seafloor, resembling rays in appearance.

The discovery was made following a report in a Facebook group, prompting a Sharklab volunteer to collect the specimen for further research.

The NGO noted the significance of the sighting, as the last known encounter with an angelshark in Malta occurred in 2009. The species faces critical threats due to bycatch in trawl and net fisheries and is nearly extinct in the North Sea and much of the northern Mediterranean.

Sharklab Malta emphasised the importance of this sighting, highlighting the ongoing presence of the species in Maltese waters and the value of citizen science in tracking such rare species.

The find adds vital information to the limited data on the critically endangered angelshark population in Malta.
