After the sad passing of Austin Borg was announced earlier this week, The Island Sanctuary revealed that the remaining three dogs raised by the man have found safe shelter.

The popular animal shelter welcomed the three new admissions Katrika, Fleur and Glory. The shelter explained how they were happy to have helped as some months ago, he had asked for aid.

The shelter welcomed the first twelve dogs and a fortnight ago, the last three were adopted. A Xarabank video back in 2011 revealed Austin’s story to Malta.

The animal lover had given up electricity to continue to afford to feed his 80 dogs and cats in Birkirkara. Rescuing strays and giving them a forever home, he has given many animals a new chance at life.

The Island Sanctuary has now appealed for donations following his passing to help them continue saving dogs’ lives. They thanked all who did so in Austin’s name as the three canines settle into their new abode.

Sun-bed overload of Comino will end says Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo

Sun-bed overload of Comino will end says Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo
Jun 2 2022 Share

Following a resurfacing issue of Comino’s sun-bed overload and overall beachside abuse, Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo has come out and said that this will not continue.

Bartolo has said that a crackdown will have to be undertaken if people are not free to lay down a towel wherever they wish.

The popular destination has raised concerns for several years, with Moviment Graffiti very recently highlighting the issue once again. Bartolo said that on Blue Lagoon, he expects that whoever goes and places a towel without renting can do so.

Bartolo said that the problem will be addressed this summer as it is just around the corner. Concerns were further raised last year by Times of Malta, after a video about the problem went viral.

Moviment Graffiti once again raised the problem today, demanding that the government take action to return the Blue Lagoon to the public. It had previously described the situation as an overcrowded, dirty and noisy hell.

‘Taxi Mary’ the most sold record in Malta reveals oldest record store

‘Taxi Mary’ the most sold record in Malta reveals oldest record store

Taking to Facebook, local record shop D’Amato Records, located in Valletta, revealed that the most sold Maltese record has been Freddy Abela’s Taxi Mary.

The shop’s page posted a snapshot of a note book record belonging to one of the establishment’s long-standing colleagues Vince Cilia dated to the 15th of May 1967.

‘On the day of release we sold 751 records! That is a record (in both senses) for Malta that will never ever be matched’ said the shop. The sales were so high that the then owner William D’Amato gave all staff a 1£ weekly increase.

The current owners even went on to explain that on the day of release, police had to be called in to control a large crowd outside the shop where the queue reached right up to St John’s Cathedral.

This specific record sold tens of thousands from Malta to Australia and Canada. The shop was set up by Giovanni D’Amato in 1885 and has survived WWII bombings. Anthony D’Amato, who passed away last year, carried on the legacy with the rest of his siblings and cousins.

His parents were absolutely loving the video and undoubtedly infinitely proud of their son’s success in the music scene. In the caption, Farrugia teased even more content coming up and given his track record (two songs with Garrix in less than a month), we’ll keep a very close eye on him!
