The 24-year-old sadly died at Mater Dei hospital after he was hit by a car in December 13 road, Marsa on October 25th. Reina was hit by a  Mercedes Benz C250 driven by a 66-year-old man from Fgura.

Remember them? These iconic Maltese restaurants are core memories

Remember them? These iconic Maltese restaurants are core memories
Oct 26 2022 Share

Malta’s food is a great part of its culture and regardless of what age you may be, going to a restaurant on Sunday with the family is part of a Maltese citizen’s socialisation. That being said, here are a few iconic Maltese restaurants which are core memories.

Ta’ Rita Lapsi View

First opening in 1927, Ta’ Rita Lapsi View Bar and Restaurant will forever remain one of the most iconic restaurants in Malta’s history. For years, it hosted patrons from all walks of life, serving a wide range of dishes in a traditional atmosphere by the seaside. On September 29th,  it was announced the iconic restaurant as we know it will close, breaking the hearts of thousands across the island.

The Avenue

Another golden oldie in Malta’s gastronomical history, The Avenue first opened in 1987, serving lovingly-made food to locals and tourists for years on end. Whether it’s a big ‘ol rack of ribs, juicy chicken breast, crisp green salads or anything else on its menu, this restaurant was always a favourite. Nowadays, it moved from its OG spot in Triq Paceville to a new location at One Portomaso.

Fanal Restaurant

After 33 years of service, Marsascala’s Fanal Restaurant closed its doors for one last time on October 2nd, leaving behind endless memories of good times and great food. For years, Fanal was a local favourite because it provided exactly what the Maltese people want… everything under one roof. From pizzas to burgers and even a Chinese menu, this spot is a true Maltese icon.

McDonald’s Bugibba

A peak core memory if we ever did see one. Looking at photos of the old McDonald’s outlet in Bugibba still gives us all the feels. From the bright yellow tents to the bold, blue railings and one of the most memorable play areas out there, the old Bugibba McDonalds is a core memory at its prime.

How many of these do you remember?
