
Malta and Gozo currently have a total of 76 fuel stations serving consumers, Minister Miriam Dalli revealed.
Responding to questions tabled in parliament by PN MP Jerome Caruana Cilia, she revealed that, of these, 56 stations hold a valid operating licence, while 20 are in the process of renewing their licences following necessary refurbishment works.
Among the licensed stations, 49 have already completed renovations, one is set to begin works soon, three have received regulatory clearance from REWS, and three are still submitting their plans for approval.
For the 20 stations awaiting licence renewal, three are actively undergoing renovations, 10 have been granted REWS clearance, and seven are still in the process of submitting their plans.
From an environmental compliance perspective, 34 stations hold environmental permits, with 17 requiring renewal, while 38 have applications under review, and four have yet to apply.
In response to a separate question, the Minister revealed that, up to the 24th of March 2025, the Regulator for Energy and Water Services (REWS) received 1 application for a new petrol station.
