After more than a century of serving generations of customers, The Wembley Store will close its doors in the coming weeks, marking the end of a remarkable 101-year journey for the family-owned business, a Valletta landmark since 1924.

Founded by Emmanuel Gauci, who famously told his father Salvatore, “I’ll run The Wembley Store for one year and see how it goes,” the store has weathered World War II, Malta’s transition from colony to republic, and the challenges of a global pandemic.

Each generation of the Gauci family has upheld a tradition of quality, value, and personal service, cementing The Wembley Store as one of Malta’s most trusted retail names.

“Family businesses are never easy they demand long hours, constant responsibility, and deep emotional investment,” said Christopher Gauci, current co-director. “But together, we achieved something rare: we kept it running for over a hundred years, and we’re proud to be concluding this chapter on a high note.”

The decision to close is entirely voluntary and comes after careful consideration. “This is not just a store,” added Noel Gauci, also co-director. “It is our identity and the embodiment of our family’s history. Letting go is painful, but we know the time is right.”

The Wembley Store also expressed its heartfelt appreciation to its staff and loyal customers for their support over the decades.
