The return of the cultural programme for the traditional feast of St Gregory

After an absence of three years, a cultural programme for the traditional feast of St Gregory has been announced.

The events will be organised by the Culture Directorate, which will now be responsible for the cultural aspect of the organisation of the festivities.

The programme, which was announced at a press conference in Żejtun, will focus on the traditional dimension of the feast, which is believed to have been celebrated for the first time in the year 1543.

Traditionally, this feast, apart from its religious aspect, is known for its connection to the first swim that occurs on the first Wednesday after Easter.

The public has started to react to a group of local pranksters’ lewd Google Maps location pin began to make the rounds on local Facebook groups.

“Where our friend goes to have sex”, as pinned by the pranksters, is the latest pin in a series of in-jokes discovered by local Facebook users. Other pins included “where Miguel eats the floor” and “where Josmar went running”, amongst others.

New portrait of Jean Paul Sofia placed outside Castille after first one was removed

New portrait of Jean Paul Sofia placed outside Castille after first one was removed

Another portrait of Jean Paul Sofia has been placed outside Auberge de Castille, mere hours after the first one was removed.

The Facebook page ‘Għal Jean Paul’, set up by the young man’s mother, read “Friends of Jean Paul have put up another picture of our dearest in front of Castille. It will stay there until a Public Enquiry into Jean Paul’s death is opened.”

The first photo, together with a number of candles, was not seen outside Castille hours after it was placed, leading to a public outcry, with many pledging that they will continue to place their tributes until justice is served.

Sofia was killed in a construction site accident back in December 2022, after a three-storey building collapsed whilst he was working in it.

In light of the public’s reaction to the treatment of Sofia’s inquiry, Prime Minister Robert Abela penned a letter to the Chief Justice on Thursday, complaining at the “unacceptable delays” as the public, together with Sofia’s friends and family, continue to call for justice.
