The last Brillanti semifinal is officially here!

The dancers, who have fought for their place all the way through, will have one last opportunity to show the judges that they have what it takes to be the finalists.

Judges Patrick, Attila and, of course, Brenda, will have to choose from the very best – some of the most exceptional dancers the islands have to offer.

The round this time is Brillanti Goes Me – meaning dancers will have the chance to show who they truly are at this stage of the competition, following all the growth and challenges they faced.

Tune in Friday on ONE at 2030hrs to find out…

The Malta International Arts Festival returns between the 16 and 25 June 2023

The Malta International Arts Festival, organised by Festivals Malta, has become a staple event within the local and international community, known for its eclectic programme of events that champions local artists while introducing audiences to world-class performances set in unique venues.

This year, the MIAF will uphold its tradition of going beyond the conventional by hosting events at unique heritage sites, particularly within an underground water cistern dating back to the 16th century and on a two-masted vessel set to panoramic views of the Grand Harbour … what more can you ask for?

International highlights include Guilhem Desq’s mesmerising hurdy-gurdy solo extravaganza and percussionist Luís Bittencourt with a spellbinding installation for vibraphone, glass tubes and dripping water.. The Javus Quartet from Salzburg, supported by the Austrian embassy in Malta, will perform a stunning programme of string quartets choreographed by Ido Gidon and Justin Roy Barker as part of the MAD – Music & Dance residency programme which connects international artists with local talent.

Local productions include Dik is-Siġra f’Nofs ta’ Triq – a collaboration with Teatru Malta and two collaborations with Heritage Malta: ARTI – full immersion – a son et lumière installation of Maltese visual arts: and Garments of the Grand Masters which combines an exhibition of historical garments of the Knights of Malta with a live piano recital. The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Michael Laus presents Beethoven’s 6th symphony “Pastorale” and Piano Concerto No. 2 by Dmitri Shostakovich featuring prominent Greek pianist Konstantinos Destounis. Last but not least, the festival will also feature B’Riħ Jew Riefnu a theatrical performance which explores local rites and traditions associated with death.

MIAF isn’t just a festival … it is an “experience” where Malta becomes the stage and the backdrop. We highly suggest you’re part of this experience and get your tickets from www.festivals.mt/miaf. You won’t regret it.

Following a profiling exercise at the Freeport Terminal, Customs Malta selected several container units for an X-ray scanning, two of which showed inconsistencies and were referred for a physical inspection.

The containers were loaded with bananas and were in transhipment from Ecuador to Koper, in Slovenia.  With the assistance of police officers from the Drug Squad, Customs officers unloaded the cargo and retrieved 170 packets from one unit, and another 100 packets from the second unit all weighing 1kg each and containing a substance suspected to be cocaine.

The Duty Magistrate was informed, and an inquiry was appointed to report and investigate the case further.
