The First People in Malta Came From… Not Where You Think
Local

Over 7,000 years ago, people arrived in Malta for the first time. But here’s the twist: they didn’t come from Italy like many might guess. Instead, the first people who sailed across the sea in simple boats came from Sicily!

The first people in Malta were farmers who grew crops, raised animals, and built homes using stone and mud. They brought goats, sheep, and seeds with them, ready to start a new life on the islands. These early settlers worked hard to make the land their home.

If farming wasn’t enough, the early Maltese were skilful builders too.  They built giant stone temples like Ġgantija on Gozo, which is older than the Egyptian pyramids! No one knows exactly how they moved those massive rocks – it’s still a mystery.
