The Fast & Furious saga is gearing up for its grand finale, and according to director Louis Leterrier, fans won’t have to wait much longer. At a recent panel at CCXP MX moderated by Collider’s Steve Weintraub, Leterrier provided thrilling updates on the production timeline and storyline for the highly anticipated conclusion to the epic series.
Leterrier, known for his directorial finesse in Fast X, which raked in over $700 million at the global box office, confirmed that filming for the final movie will kick off early next year. He cheekily endorsed Tyrese Gibson’s prediction, hinting, “Tyrese is always right. Watch his Instagram!”
But what’s even more exciting is the planned release window for the film. Leterrier announced, “It’s filming early next year, and it’s coming out in 2026, which will be exactly to the day, 25 years since the first one came out.” With the franchise celebrating its quarter-century-long legacy, a June 2026 release seems highly probable, marking a monumental occasion for Fast & Furious fans worldwide.
The director also dropped tantalizing hints about the setting and closure of the series. The final movie will return to where it all began: Los Angeles, the birthplace of the first, more grounded Fast and Furious film. This decision serves as both a homage to the franchise’s roots and a fitting conclusion to the saga’s epic journey. Leterrier expressed his excitement, stating, “It’s exactly that. That’s what we wanna do. We wanna bring it back home, and still have a great big journey to tell.”
Regarding the storyline, Fast X introduces Dante, played by Jason Momoa, as Dom and the crew’s fiercest adversary yet. The son of drug lord Hernan Reyes, taken down by Hobbs in Fast Five, Dante is a volatile and vengeful force, unleashing chaos and car chases like never before seen in the franchise. The film concludes with Dom in full protective-dad mode, shielding his son from Dante’s relentless pursuit in what appears to be a warzone.
As the Fast & Furious family prepares for their final ride, Leterrier teased, “Yes,” when asked if he knew how the franchise would ultimately conclude, leaving fans on the edge of their seats with anticipation.
With its explosive action, heartfelt moments, and a return to its roots, the final installment of the Fast & Furious franchise promises to be an unforgettable cinematic experience, bringing closure to a legendary saga while leaving audiences craving more.
