Local social media personality Terry Muscat spoke out via Facebook Live after a photo she described as offensive and deeply hurtful was displayed during the Bajd u Bejken live show on May 2nd.

Muscat, who was not present at the event, said she received messages and screenshots from audience members showing a digitally altered image of her.

The image depicted half of her face, while the other half was edited to include a male body part, which she says was meant to mock her identity as a transgender woman.

“I usually don’t get offended easily, but this broke me,” Muscat said. “I felt like I couldn’t ever go out again.” She explained that the image crossed a line and caused her emotional distress, especially given the public nature of the mockery.

“I’ve tolerated jokes and comments before, but this is too much,” she added, noting that Facebook’s guidelines prevented her from reposting the photo to raise awareness about what had happened.

Muscat has since reported the incident to the Bormla police station, hoping action will be taken against the show’s producers.

‘Satire is not an excuse for degradation’, she posted on social media. ‘Freedom of expression should go hand-in-hand with respect of every individual’s dignity.
