Apr 22 2024 Share

Written, originally in French, by Yasmina Reza and translated into English by Christopher Hampton, this new production of ‘God of Carnage’ which will be performed at Teatru Manoel, will be directed by Andrè Agius and performed in English by four renowned local actors: Chris Dingli, Charlotte Grech, Chiara Hyzler and Pierre Stafrace.

‘God of Carnage’ is an exceptional dark comedy and one of the most celebrated plays of the last two decades. It premiered in Zurich in 2006 before moving to Paris, where it won the Molière Award for Best Play. The play made its West End debut in 2008 starring an ensemble cast that included Ralph Fiennes, Tamsin Grieg, Ken Stott and Janet McTeer.

In its Broadway debut in 2009 the cast included Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, James Gandolfini, and Marcia Gay Harden. Since then, the play has been performed in theatres around the world, captivating audiences with its sharp wit and exploration of human behaviour.

The play takes you into the world of high-stakes parental conflict which delves into the chaos that ensues when two sets of parents come together to discuss a playground quarrel between their 11-year-old sons. As tensions rise and civility crumbles, this Olivier and Tony award-winning play offers a hilarious and scathing commentary on modern social dynamics.

Don’t miss this gripping exploration of human nature and the thin veneer of civilization! ‘God of Carnage’ is on at Teatru Manoel from the 6th to the 9th of June at 8pm. Tickets from www.teatrumanoel.mt or from Teatru Manoel’s box office in Valletta.

Malta & Antigua & Barbuda Sign Collaboration Agreement

Malta & Antigua & Barbuda Sign Collaboration Agreement
Apr 22 2024 Share

On April 22, 2024, Ian Borg, the Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta, warmly welcomed Everly Paul Chet Greene, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, Trade, and Barbuda Affairs of Antigua & Barbuda, on an official visit to Malta.

Despite the geographical distance between them, Malta and Antigua & Barbuda share many commonalities as small island states and members of the Commonwealth. These shared attributes shape their values and priorities, particularly concerning climate change and other challenges they face.

During their meeting, the Ministers highlighted the growth of bilateral cooperation over the past few years, which initially began during the COVID-19 pandemic. They emphasized collaborative efforts on water management issues and celebrated positive momentum in relations. A significant achievement of the meeting was the joint signature on the founding document of the Global Maritime Sanctions Information Centre, aimed at promoting training and information sharing among ship registries worldwide to isolate problematic actors.

The discussions also covered bilateral interests, foreign and security issues on the global stage, and a shared commitment to peace, conflict resolution, and international cooperation. Both nations emphasized the importance of upholding international law and accountability. Additionally, they reaffirmed their dedication to promoting human rights, good governance, and the rule of law domestically.

The Ministers underscored the urgent environmental challenges facing their regions and stressed the need for increased international collaboration on climate issues. They expressed support for the upcoming COP 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 2024.

Both countries acknowledged the necessity of advocating for small island states on the global stage. They agreed to collaborate on international advocacy efforts, particularly given Antigua’s upcoming hosting of the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States and Malta’s roles within the European Union and the UN Security Council.

To solidify their ongoing cooperation, the Ministers signed minutes outlining shared priorities for future collaboration between Malta and Antigua & Barbuda.

Apr 22 2024 Share

Mellieħa SC Football School has dedicated a unique team for local children with autism, so that they can raise awareness about the spectrum through the love of sport.

‘Awareness is not done in one day, work must be carried out all year round to be celebrated during an awareness month or day.’

The club proudly drives the Autism initiative hoping that this becomes the norm – that is, providing sustained support to individuals on this spectrum.

The coaches, through a video uploaded to social media, explain the aims behind this initiative.

Coach Sherif Sleiman explains how sport can be adapted to help children who were born with the disability, along with the support of SC Chairwoman Margot Cutajar and the parents of the children.

‘Let’s stop treating them differently and provide equal opportunity and access.’
