Following three players removing branded drinks from in front of them during press conferences, it was announced that teams at Euro 2020 could face fines if their players were to move any sponsored drinks at news conferences. Cristiano Ronaldo removed two Coca Cola bottles on Monday, followed by Pogba who removed Heineken and Italy’s Locatelli who also removed Coca Cola.
However UEFA has reminded participating teams that ‘partnerships are integral to the delivery of the tournament and to ensuring the development of football across Europe’, in a statement on Thursday. Despite understanding situations like Pogba’s, who removed the alcohol due to his religious faith, UEFA pointed out that players were contractually obliged with regulations. Any sanctions are taken at the discretion of the national federations.
