Team Start PN light 300 candles in front of Castille in honour of COVID-19 victims

Yesterday evening, Nationalist youth branch Team Start lit 300 candles in front of Castille to honour the country’s 300 victims of COVID-19.

Team Start president Eve Borg Bonello stated that the branch recognises the victims of this tragedy, who were allegedly ‘sacrificed for the economy’ as part of the government’s COVID-19 road map.

The branch called upon the government to respect and recognise the right for human life as it is the pillar of Maltese democracy.

New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern announces free sanitary products in schools

New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern has announced that all schools will have free sanitary products as from next June.

This initiative is aimed at stomping out, “period-poverty” in New Zealand.

Around the middle of last year, a pilot programme was launched which provided free period products to about 3,200 students across 15 schools.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, said in a statement that, “Providing free period products at school is one way the government can directly address poverty, help increase school attendance, and make a positive impact on children’s well-being”.

Traffic accidents have decreased towards the end of 2020

The National Statistics Office has published a news release saying that during the fourth quarter of 2020, road traffic accidents and casualties have declined. Road traffic fatalities amount to just 1.

The number of reported traffic accidents at the end of 2020 was 3,171. Compared to the same quarter in 2019, the figures went down by 17.4%.

There were 68 grievously injured people, 42 of which were drivers, 4 were passengers, and 22 pedestrians or cyclists. There were 5 fewer fatalities when compared to the same quarter in 2019.

Texas is seeing some of the coldest temperatures in 30 years

Texas is being hit by one of the worst storms its seen in over 30 years. This freak storm has swept across southern states in America, and it has left millions without power.

Multiple deaths are being credited to this storm. Joe Biden has declared a state of emergency in Texas. Houses in these areas aren’t insulated for such temperatures and this has caused many people’s heating systems to fail.

The deep freeze is predicted to last some more days before slightly warmer temperatures arrive in Texas next week.
