On Saturday, 8th March 2025, TDM 2000 Malta reached a remarkable milestone—its 20th anniversary since its official founding. This special occasion united members, alumni, local and international partners, and esteemed guests in a celebration of two decades of influence, growth, and youth empowerment. Set against the beautiful backdrop of Maria Rosa Wine Estate in Attard, the evening honored the organisation’s legacy of transforming young lives through international exchanges, training programmes, and community initiatives.
The night was filled with gratitude, reflection, and inspiration, as speakers recounted TDM 2000 Malta’s journey from its modest beginnings to becoming a leading force in youth development at both national and international levels. The celebration was further elevated by stellar performances from local artists, including Kevin Paul Calleja and the band SKARLET, whose music infused the evening with energy and joy.
A Legacy of Growth and Impact
TDM 2000 Malta’s story began in 2004 when three young Maltese participants took part in an exchange programme in Sardinia. This eye-opening experience sparked a vision—to create more opportunities for young people in Malta to engage in international learning and cultural exchange. What started as a small, informal group of passionate youths in Swieqi quickly evolved into a structured organisation. By March 2005, TDM 2000 Malta was officially established, initiating a journey that has since seen the successful execution of over 190 projects across nearly 60 countries.
Over the years, the organisation has remained steadfast in its mission to promote youth development through Erasmus+ and other international programmes. Whether through educational projects, cultural exchanges, or philanthropic activities, TDM has profoundly impacted thousands of young individuals, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and experiences to become proactive members of their communities.
An Evening of Appreciation and Reflection
The event commenced with a heartfelt welcome by TDM 2000 Malta’s Vice President, Julia Zammit Galea Testaferrata, who set the tone for the evening by acknowledging the dedication and efforts of all those who have contributed to the organisation’s journey. She also highlighted the significance of International Women’s Day, which coincided with the event, paying tribute to the strength and accomplishments of women worldwide.
A special message from the President of the European Parliament, Dr. Roberta Metsola, was shared, in which she expressed her admiration for TDM 2000 Malta’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment. MEP Thomas Bajada also conveyed his appreciation for the organisation’s ongoing efforts.
Representatives from TDM International and TDM Italy, including Presidents Angelica Perra and Luca Frongia, were recognised for their continuous collaboration and invaluable contributions to the organisation’s success. Their presence reinforced the strong bonds between international partners who share a common goal—creating meaningful opportunities for young people.
Additionally, the event was graced by the presence of MP Hon. David Agius, Prof. Arnold Cassola, and Mr. Mario Sammut from the Liaison Office of the European Parliament Office in Malta. Their participation underscored the significance of TDM 2000 Malta’s contributions to youth engagement and empowerment at both local and European levels.
A Commitment to Philanthropy
Beyond international projects and exchanges, TDM 2000 Malta has always placed philanthropy at the heart of its mission. In the past year alone, the organisation has extended support to 20 different non-governmental organisations and charities, offering both financial aid and in-kind assistance. In line with this commitment, the anniversary celebration also served as a platform to collect donations for Dar tal-Providenza, a local charity dedicated to assisting individuals with disabilities. Fr. Martin, representing the organisation, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the generosity and continuous support shown by TDM 2000 Malta.
Looking to the Future
The final speech of the night was delivered by Duncan Muscat, President of TDM 2000 Malta, who highlighted the organisation’s core mission. He emphasised the crucial role of youth participation in shaping society—both locally and globally—and the power of young individuals to drive positive change.
Duncan reaffirmed that TDM 2000 Malta remains dedicated to fostering engagement, mobility, and education, ensuring that young people continue to have access to transformative opportunities. By creating spaces for youth involvement and amplifying their voices on national and international platforms, the organisation remains steadfast in its mission to empower the next generation.
A Night to Remember
The 20th Anniversary Celebration was more than just an event—it was a moment of gratitude, inspiration, and anticipation for the future. It provided an opportunity for past and present members to reconnect, reflect on the organisation’s impact, and celebrate the exciting possibilities ahead.
As TDM 2000 Malta embarks on its next chapter, one thing is certain—the organisation will continue to inspire, empower, and uplift young people for many more years to come.
