Local

The Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health has issued a warning advising the public not to bathe in the Wilġa area of St Julian’s until further notice, due to contamination affecting water quality.

According to the Bathing Water Directive, the advisory follows reports of polluted water entering the sea at Site Code B05 – Wilġa, located along Wilġa Street. The presence of contaminated water may pose a risk to public health.

Officials from the Directorate carried out an investigation, identified the source of the contamination, and have since addressed the issue. However, it is currently not possible to estimate how long the warning will remain in place.

Members of the public seeking further information are encouraged to contact the Environmental Health Directorate between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. by telephone on 2133 7333 or via email at wrau.ehd@gov.mt.
