The Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights has renewed its agreement with the Karl Vella Foundation to provide continued support to children facing emotional difficulties due to a parent suffering from a terminal illness. In such circumstances, parents often struggle to give their children the attention and care they normally would, as they themselves undergo demanding medical treatment.

This renewed partnership includes funding of over €400,000. The agreement was announced by Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, Michael Falzon, who emphasised the importance of supporting families during challenging times. He explained that the funding will ensure the ongoing delivery of both individual and group therapy sessions tailored to children’s needs.

Minister Falzon stated that the government is committed to helping all members of society, particularly those facing hardship, by offering opportunities and emotional support when it is most needed.

Claire Chircop, Director and Co-founder of the Karl Vella Foundation, highlighted that the organisation’s work centres around providing psychological support, psychotherapy, and mentoring to children aged five to seventeen. She said the government’s support allows the foundation to continue reaching vulnerable children who are coping with serious illness in the family or grieving the loss of a parent. Without this assistance, the service could not continue.
