More planes, more travel: AirMalta welcomes 5th airbus A320neo

Mar 26 2023 Share

Air Malta have officially announced that on the 24th of March 2023, it received delivery of its fifth Airbus A320neo.

The new aircraft, which will bear the registration 9H-NEE, will be replacing the A320ceo 9H-AEQ will be exiting the fleet.

‘The delivery flight from the Airbus plant in Toulouse to Malta International Airport was powered by a blend of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and commanded by Capt. Patrick Calleja, and First Officer Mark Attard. This was Capt. Calleja’s last flight with Air Malta after a career spanning more than 31 years of service for Air Malta.’

It has been delivered with a new modern livery design and picks up from the colours and elements off the Maltese flag.

This is another step in the airline’s fleet renewal project as the airline currently operates a fleet of seven Airbus, four A320neo and three A320ceo aircraft.

The renewal started back in 2018, moving from old A320ceo to the greener A320neo. The plan is to consist of a single-type aircraft – the A320neo.

This is a transition that means a significant reduction to fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and noise footprint. The craft is equipped to accommodate 180 passengers in a two cabin configuration.

‘As the quietest aircraft of its size, the A320neo will result in 20% lower fuel burn and CO2 emissions along with lower maintenance costs compared to previous-generation Airbus aircraft. The A320neo also features a cabin air refresh rate of 2 minutes and includes ozone converters to further purify the cabin air from external fumes too.’

ADPD call out proposed project for St George’s Bay unacceptable

Mar 26 2023 Share

Malta’s Green Party have released a statement condemning the new proposed project for St George’s Bay which ‘will literally cast a shadow on the bay.’

The party said that we are once again facing another controversy over a project for the bay. ‘After all the protests by Civil Society regarding the dB project in Pembroke and the aborted Masterplan for Paceville some six years ago, this massive project is definitely not acceptable.’

The party revealed that the project would see three towers erected, one of 34 floors and two of 27 floors each.

These towers, the party exclaimed, would impact the local environment negatively during construction and during the eventual operation.

‘This project will cover a footprint of almost 50,000 square metres with a development mix of tourism, business and entertainment facilities in an area which is already overdeveloped and overcrowded practically all year round.’

What do you make of this?
