In a press conference organized by the Foundation for Social Welfare Services (FSWS), Sedqa presented its proposals regarding the recently launched National Alcohol Policy, which is currently out for public consultation by the Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights.

In his address, Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights Michael Falzon highlighted some of the enforcement measures recently introduced by the Government to combat alcohol abuse and other substances. He emphasized the need for greater courage in addressing alcohol culture and ensuring that more people understand the harmful consequences of alcohol abuse.

Minister Michael Falzon said, “This is the time to continue strengthening enforcement against all types of substance abuse, especially when it endangers the lives of others. Every addiction takes away your freedom, and therefore, we remain committed to strengthening prevention and providing care for those struggling with dependency.”

The press conference also featured speeches by Sedqa Agency Director Charles Scerri and Chairperson Anna Maria Vella. They acknowledged the effective measures already introduced through the Government’s alcohol policy. Regarding the National Alcohol Policy, the Agency presented a series of proposals aimed at preventing alcohol abuse, emphasizing education and the importance of community-level enforcement. These initiatives are intended to drive a cultural shift in attitudes toward alcohol.
