St. Michael Junior School Begins Year-Long Journey Into Malta’s History, Culture, & Community

St. Michael Junior School has launched a year-long project exploring Malta’s history, culture, and community under the theme “Small Islands, Big Stories.”
Classrooms have been designed to reflect the theme, with vibrant colours, displays, and materials that highlight Maltese traditions. The aim is to create a stimulating environment that encourages curiosity and pride in the island’s heritage.
School staff hope that the initiative will help students develop a deeper connection to their cultural identity. By surrounding pupils with the stories, symbols, and colours of Malta, the school intends to make heritage feel alive and relevant to everyday learning.
The project comes at a time when interest in Maltese culture and history has been observed to decline. Through interactive and visually engaging classroom spaces, St. Michael Junior School aims to inspire children to take pride in their roots and develop a lasting appreciation for their cultural heritage.
The theme “Small Islands, Big Stories” will remain a focus throughout the school year, providing pupils with opportunities to explore and celebrate what makes Malta unique.
